"Winning doesn't always mean being first. Winning means you're doing better than you've ever done before." Bonnie Blair
"Success isn't something that just happens - success is learned, success is practiced and then it is shared." Sparky Anderson
"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." Michael Jordan
"Time is limited, so I better wake up every morning fresh and know that I have just one chance to live this particular day right, and to string my days together into a life of action, and purpose." Lance Armstrong 7-time winner of the Tour de France
"Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage." Bart Starr
"You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits, that is real joy." Arthur Ashe

St. Matthew Athletics

Athletics offers children a rewarding Christian experience through sportsmanship, team concepts and competition. The St. Matthew Athletic Association was formed to provide our children the opportunity of competing in various sports programs. Each year the Athletic Association fields over 60 teams in 8 sports for the children of St. Matthew and Church of the Resurrection parishes. Each spring, a Varsity banquet is held to honor all athletes who have competed at the varsity level in any sport.

Our Athletic programs begin at the fourth grade level. The following is a listing of the Sports offered by St. Matthew:

St. Matthew provides exceptional facilities for the sports programs offered above. The Athletics fields (located behind the Gahanna Swim Club (map)) consist of a combination Soccer/Football field, Baseball/Softball Diamond, a practice area, and an adjacent parking lot. The Parish Activities Center (PAC) provides the facility for Basketball and Volleyball courts along with a concession kitchen. The track team makes use of the Gahanna Lincoln High school facilities for their practices.
